STARTED: Incubation Program 2020
Ann Don Bosco
SEED GRANT: $50,000
Canopie is a scalable and cost-effective digital program to prevent and treat perinatal mood disorders.
CURRENT OR PREDICTED IMPACT:
They are working to secure relationships with healthcare organizations in the U.S. and the UK, which would allow Canopie to become accessible to millions of new moms per year. Once scaled, Canopie would cost $1.06 per mother reached, $42.43 per mother protected from depression and $222 per DALY averted.
From April to May 2021, Canopie recruited 100 (treatment n=51, control n=49) expecting women and mothers with children < 1 with English-language proficiency to participate in a randomized controlled trial (RCT) to test the program’s effectiveness in reducing symptoms of depression using clinically validated scales. 79.3% of participants with possible depression (EPDS scores >10) had a positive change in their mood score equal to or greater than the reliable change index of 4. This change was not seen in the control group (June 2021)
With the support of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Canopie launched their beta app with 400 pediatricians and providers across 7 U.S. states (April 2021)
StartUp Health selected Canopie as a Health Transformer for its portfolio
Tampa Bay Wave (Wave) has selected Canopie from several hundred applications to participate in their 2021 TechDiversity Accelerator program.
