Building healthcare capacity to enable mothers to provide “Kangaroo Care” an exceptionally simple and scientifically proven treatment to avert newborn deaths

CURRENT OR PREDICTED IMPACT:

  • 80-115 neonatal deaths could be prevented in the first year of operation in India.

COST-EFFECTIVENESS:

  • Ansh estimates that, in the first year of operation in the pilot districts, they can save a life for less than $2500 in one district in India, averting a DALY for just $58 (10x direct cash transfers). At scale, they could save a life for less than $900, averting a DALY for just $20 (28x direct cash transfers).

SIGNIFICANT UPDATES:

  • Ansh is launching two pilot projects with two implementing partners in Rajasthan. Ansh’s first pilot project is projected to be launched by October with Action Against Hunger India in Baran, Rajasthan.

  • Their second pilot project is currently in the design stage with a grassroots organization in Western Rajasthan.

ACHIEVEMENTS:

  • Ansh has secured knowledge partnerships with two research organizations in Uttar Pradesh, including the GiveWell-funded research institute of compassionate economics (r.i.c.e.).

ROOM FOR MORE FUNDING IN 2023:

  • Ansh currently has the budget to set up and run their two pilot projects for 3 months. If the pilots are successful and have the projected impact, they will need approximately $50,000 to keep saving lives for additional 7 months until they plan our scale-up. In December, as they get the pilot data, they will potentially be looking to raise this amount.
